The Duke of York's Royal Military School
The Duke of York's Royal Military School
A unique and iconic school...
In 1801, His Royal Highness Frederick Duke of York laid the foundation stone in Chelsea of what was to become The Duke of York's Royal Military School, a school for the children of military personnel. In 1908, the school relocated to its present site in Dover, Kent and in 2010, we became the first full state boarding academy, opening our doors to any family wishing to choose this unique and iconic school for their child’s secondary education.
A £24.9 million refurbishment project in 2014 has delivered a new sports centre, high-quality accommodation and teaching blocks and a performing arts centre.
Military ethos and heritage
Our military ethos and heritage is what stands us apart from any other School, helping our students to develop strong character and life skills. It’s what makes us the state boarding school of choice for families looking for a quality education for their child at a competitive price. While still educating many children from forces families, we remain at the forefront of educational excellence, preparing students from all backgrounds for the next steps in their young lives.
Academic achievement
We are a non-selective school but we consistently perform significantly above the national average with our GCSE results. Supervised prep, Saturday morning lessons and proactively encouraging each and every student to achieve the very best they can ensures that we maintain a high academic standard. Students’ progress is regularly monitored to ensure early intervention and to provide additional support as and when required.
Values
Our core values are courage, integrity, respect, commitment, loyalty and self-discipline. Most of our boarding house staff are teachers too, and therefore work hard to instil our values across both the academic and pastoral sides of the school.
Open Days and Student Tours
The Duke of York’s Royal Military School offers students aged 11 to 18 the opportunity to study for their GCSEs and A Levels in a close knit and supportive community where they can live and learn with their friends.
You will have the opportunity to meet our current students, learn more about boarding, tour the School and meet the teaching staff. With the level of support that we can offer, over 80% of our Sixth Form students secured their first or second choice at University.
If you are unable to attend our Open Morning, hosted tours are available on week days.
If you prefer direct contact to book a place for the Open Day or to book an individual tour on a week day, please contact the School Registrar, Miss Caroline Cant: caroline.cant@doyrms.com
