Rugby School

Rugby School

One of the world’s leading co-educational day and boarding schools…

'...the results of [staff and pupils] innovative thinking and hard work are seen through sky-rocketing results in academic, sport and the arts.' - Tatler Schools Guide 2021

Now offering the IB Diploma Programme from 2021

Rugby School celebrated its best ever A Level and GCSE results in 2019, but we are about so much more than academic success. Here at Rugby, we have opted for a quantum model where all facets of life – academic and artistic, spiritual and sporting – form part of an indivisible whole. Our students have every opportunity to become the best versions of themselves, which is why at Rugby, the whole person is the whole point.

Rugby School pupils flourish in a supportive and spiritually aware community which challenges learners, develops resilience and encourages intellectual risk-taking. We foster academic excellence, nurture individual talents and ignite that spark enabling our students to develop a lifelong love of learning, while achieving outstanding results.

With the saying ‘no-one on the bench’ we make sure sport is genuinely for all with 38 hockey teams, 22 for netball, 18 for rugby and 15 for cricket. Every student also receives professional coaching at every level.

Founded in 1567, Rugby is one of the UK’s oldest schools and was an influential force in the development of independent education. This remarkable and innovative institution has every right to be seen as one of the world’s leading co-educational day and boarding schools.

Location
Enjoying a central location just 48 minutes by train from London and close to the M6, M1 and Birmingham Airport, Rugby School offers the best of all worlds – a leafy green 150-acre campus of the edge of the countryside but still part of the town.

Facilities
A rich, cultural heritage runs through the core of the School with many buildings of architectural distinction from the impressive Chapel to the splendid Temple Speech Room. Step away from the town and pupils enter another world of ancient cloisters and elegant quads punctuated by swathes of green.

The facilities are, however, state-of-the-art including a purpose-built Modern Languages building, an impressive Science Centre, a Design Centre and most recently, a huge new sixth form centre for A Level only subjects and now the IB Diploma from 2021.

Sports facilities are equally impressive including a modern Sports Centre, with its 25m pool, fitness suite and courts, three new astro-turf hockey pitches, soccer and rugby fields and hard courts for tennis and netball.

Boarding Houses
The ethos at Rugby that the whole person is the whole point is undeniably apparent within this perfected and seamless House structure. The role of Housemaster or mistress as head of the ‘family’ is to create and maintain a happy and balanced home with the able support of their deputy and the Matron, who importantly are all resident. Totally committed to the well-being of their young people, this nucleus of staff provides 24-hour care that is second to none.

Academic
Rugby celebrated its best ever examination results in 2019 when 15 pupils were also offered a place to Oxford or Cambridge.

Co-curricular
Our co-curricular programme offers more than 200 activities that challenge, inspire and help to create that ‘whole person’. We recognise every pupil is an individual and we say make the most of every opportunity while you are here.
